Corsica - Leisure cycling - 8 days

On this cycle holiday you will discover the coast of Corsica as well as its interior. The kilometres follow one another but they are far from being the same; with different landscapes every day. You will meet proud island inhabitants who will want to share their enthusiasm with you for their local culture and gastronomy. This is a great trip that will leave you with fantastic memories of Corsica and will make you want to return for more!
You will be accommodated in carefully selected hotels, rooms in a guesthouse or inns according to the availability at the time of the reservation.



Program
Day 1 Bastia
Your stay starts in Bastia at your hotel in the afternoon. If you have time to discover the capital of the Upper-Corsica visit the old port which is superb as well as the freely accessible citadel and the old city which offers a wonderful panorama on the sea and the surroundings. For dinner, we advise you go to the old port with has a particular atmosphere.
Night in Bastia.
Cap Corse

Day 2 The Cape of Corsica
This morning you mount your bicycle and leave northwest, on a road which follows the sea, passes inland and joins the other side of the Cape and its superb cliffs. The course is strewn with Genoese and Paoline towers as well as old convents and mills. The seascapes with their small fishing ports are splendid.
Riding distances: a choice of two routes, approximately between 59km and 83km.
Night stay in a small coastal village on the west coast of the Cape.

Day 3 From the Cape to the Gulf of Saint-Florent.
You leave the Corsica Cape to go southward towards Saint-Florent. According to the chosen route, you will be able to discover the village of Patrimonio, famous in the whole of Corsica for its vineyards. Tastings are possible in the cellars of the village. In Saint-Florent, do not fail to visit the citadel and to stroll around the port and its small commercial streets.
Riding Distances: a choice of three routes, approximately between 25km and 48km.

Day 4 The Desert des Agriates.
Today you are in the heart of the Desert des Agriates. From hamlet to hamlet, you cross this superb 'desert' (covered in the local maquis scrub, which has a fantastic smell and is amazing in the spring when the maquis is in blossom) which will bring you closer to the sea again. You will arrive soon at your accommodation, not far from Ile Rousse.
Riding Distances: a choice of three, approximately 48km, 69km or 80km.
Night stay in a village near to Ile Rousse.

Day 5 Villages of Balagne.
The most motivated of you will follow the coast to Calvi and its beautiful citadel before going up to the villages of the Balagne. This area is bewitching. These stone villages perched in the middle of nowhere have an astonishing beauty and have kept themselves from modernism.
Riding Distances: approximately 30km, 44km, or 57km.
Night in the mountains.

Day 6 The Corsica Inheritance.
You will continue into the villages of the Balagne by discovering superb testimonies of the past through old churches and convents. You will follow the border of the Natural reserve of Corsica until you reach Ponte Leccia, your stop for the night. This day will be marked by the numerous animals that you will meet wandering in freedom: cows, pigs, goats...
Riding distance: approximately 34km, 41km or 56km.
Route

Day 7 Descent in Castagniccia.
Your last day of riding will take you through the villages of Castagniccia known for their chapels, their numerous natural sources as well as their ancestral culture of sweet chestnut. Royal Milan, this impressive bird is widespread in this area and you will surely see it hovering over your heads. You will cross many rivers and brooks before arriving at the coast. Your stop for the night will be in a village close to the airport.
Riding distance: approximately 31km, 53km or 63km.

Day 8 End of stay.
After your breakfast, a transfer can be organized towards the airport or the harbour station. End of stay.

This program offers you the choice of distance you wish to ride each day. Depending on the shape you're in, you can adapt the stages to your ability. The distances vary from a minimum of 25km to a maximum of 83km. The longest minimum stage is 63km. The first stage is the longest, but also the easiest in terms of terrain.
Carrying
The transfers of your luggage is ensured by vehicle. Thus you only have to carry your things needed for the day (picnic, camera, etc).
