This journey will take you to one of the nicest areas of the Carpathian Mountains, where the presence of human settlements has not disturbed the original landscape and ecosystems.
The massive of Piatra Craiului is the longest limestone mountain range of Romania. It is also the paradise of the wild fauna and flora. The plenitude of nature and its vitality have allowed here the survival of animals and plants that disappeared in other parts of Europe. You’ll also encounter scattered beautiful villages with a patriarchal atmosphere that will provide a surprising contrast to the wilderness of the mountains. The rides in the Piatra Craiului National park, in the middle of pastures, sheepfolds and forests, will not leave you indifferent! |
Day 1 Reception in Bucharest
The trip starts in Bucharest. If you arrive early enough, you could visit the old Bucharest. Transfer by bus to the train station and then by train to Zarnesti. |
Day 2 Zarnesti Gorges
Ride through the Zarnesti Gorges to the magnificent Curmatura Hut. These Gorges, called by locals "The Abysses", present vertical walls of 200m and offer, especially during autumn, colours of an extraordinary variety. The end of the day will bring you in a magnificent traditional village with great views to the crests of the surrounding mountains.

Day 3 Bran Castle
Small trip outside this pastoral world to visit the Bran Castle. This castle, built in the 14th century, always had a role of defence against the migratory peoples. Later it protected Transylvania from the Ottoman invasions. The castle was also associated during a long time with the prince Vlad Tepes of Walachia. Born in Transylvania, he is at the origin of the fictional character of Dracula. Night in the same place as before.

Day 4 From one village to another
Today you will continue the ride at the feet of the Piatra Craiului Mountains in this bucolic landscape in the middle of pastures, sheepfolds and woods. You will cross scattered villages which seem not to care about time passing. You will see surprising landscapes in the surrounding mountains. Night in a traditional village of Piatra Craiului’s mountains.

Day 5 End of stay
Departure after the breakfast. Transfer to Zarnesti and train to Bucharest. End of the trip. |
